  3. Welcome
  4. ArtMatic is new kind of program, an "Art Synthesizer", which makes it possible for anyone to create breathtaking vibrant images, psychedelic animations, and even exciting new sounds.

  6. ArtMatic combines fractal and fractal-like images, random textures, gradients, displacements maps, and tiles in exciting ways not possible with any other product.

  8. It is easy and fun to use and requires no special skills or knowledge.

  11. ArtMatic can create:

  13. • Pictures - an incredible number of stunning pictures can be created during even a short session of a few minutes. Be sure to have enough disk space!
  14. • QuickTime Movies - ArtMatic features several animation modes to render high resolution QuickTime movies.
  15. • Sounds - Strange, exciting sounds can be automatically generated from ArtMatic's mathematical "structures". Don't worry, no mathematical skills required.

  18. Not only is it just plain fun to watch ArtMatic invent and evolve amazing graphical worlds, it can also be used more seriously to:

  20. • Create background tiles for your web page
  21. • Create custom backgrounds and pictures for the Macintosh desktop
  22. • Design your own flyers and CD covers
  23. • Create textures and terrain maps for Bryce and backgrounds for Photoshop
  24. • Design pictures to be used as filters or displacement maps in MetaSynth
  25. • Create great animations and sounds for your live performances, Techno parties or art clips.

  28. New Features!
  29. Several exciting features have been added to this version of ArtMatic:
  30. • Mutations has been added to the Edit menu. This feature lets you explore a huge range of images very quickly.
  31. • Compression of QuickTime animation.
  32. • A start time option has been added to the QuickTime Export dialog.
  33. • Animation preview within the QuickTime Export dialog.

  35. Requirements
  36. ArtMatic runs on any Macintosh equipped with a PowerPC processor. ArtMatic's realtime features work best on computers powered by a 300 MHz 604 processor or G3 processor.

  39. HTML-based documentation is provided for ArtMatic. If this documentation is not found in the folder that contains ArtMatic, it may be downloaded from the U&I Software web site.

  45. Getting Started
  46. The documentation contains a quick tutorial to acquaint you with ArtMatic's most commonly used features. If you can't wait, just launch the application and follow these simple steps to create amazing images:

  48. • Click on the dice to randomize the image.
  49. • Zoom in and out on the image by pressing the '+' and '-' buttons.
  50. • Choose a new configuration from the pop-up icon menu at the top of the righthand tools.
  51. • Click on the image and drag to the left or right to reveal more of the image.
  52. • Click on the animation buttons (the forward arrow buttons in the lower tool set) to watch the image mutate.
  53. • Choose Mutate from the Edit menu, click on the thumbnail images, and see what happens!

  55. Installation Note
  56. Virtual Memory may not be compatible with ArtMatic's sound generation features. If you are having problems, open the Memory control panel and make sure that Virtual Memory is turned off. You must reboot for changes of this setting to take effect.

  58. Registering/Purchasing
  59. Without a registration key, the software runs in demo mode for a limited period of time. All features are enabled in Demo mode except for file saving.

  61. ArtMatic may be purchased/registered for $79 US. You may pay for the software by credit card (Visa, MasterCard or American Express) on the U&I Software web site <http://www.uisoftware.com/AMOrder.html>.

If you prefer not to order online, use the Register application provided with the ArtMatic software. With the Register application, you can pay with cash or check and almost any credit card (including Optima, Discover, Diners Club and others). These payments can be sent by postal mail, faxed or sent by E-mail.

  65. After we receive your payment, a registration key is sent which permits you to authorize your copy of the software.

  67. Registration keys are sent within 3 days of receipt of your purchase. If you believe there has been a problem with your order or you have not received your key within 7 days, contact us at <order@uisoftware.com>.

  69. Using the Register application
  70. If you prefer not to use our online registration system to pay, you can use the Register application which accompanies ArtMatic. Below are the instructions for using the Register application to pay for ArtMatic.

Open the Register program. Enter your name, your email address, your street address and the number of single user licenses you wish to purchase. Save or Copy or Print the data from the Register program and send the data and payment to Kagi by the means listed below. Kagi handles our external payment processing.

  74. If you are paying with Cash or USD Check you should print the data using the Register application and send it to the address shown on the form, which is:

  79. If paying with Credit Card, you can email or fax the data to Kagi. Their email address is sales@kagi.com and their fax number is +1 510 652-6589.

You can either Copy the data from Register and paste into the body of an email message or you can Save the data to a file and you can attach that file to an email message. There is no need to compress the data file, it's already pretty small. If you have a fax modem, just Print the data to the Kagi fax number.

  83. Payments sent via email are processed within 3 to 4 days. You will receive an email acknowledgement when it is processed. Payments sent via fax take up to 10 days and if you provide a correct internet email address you will receive an email acknowledgement.
